By JUDY BYRGE Morgan County News A Sunbright man is facing the possibility of felony drug charges after a drug bust at his residence last week. Agents from the Ninth Judicial District Drug Task Force along with TBI agents and the Sunbright Police Department executed a search warrant at 256 Pea Ridge Road in Sunbright looking for illegal drugs and evidence of an illegal drug selling operation,” District Attorney General Russell Johnson. The search was made on Friday, Dec. 18. Authorities recovered about 17 pounds of what they believe to be marijuana and some 350 pills that have yet to be identified through the crime lab. A man identified as Jerry Clay Wright, 53, was found in the residence. “He was standing behind a counter apparently in the process of sorting and weighing what is believed to be marijuana as the DTF (Drug Task Force) agents entered the residence.” Authorities also found what is believed to be a large amount of marijuana wrapped in Christmas paper in a vehicle on the property. The drugs, an undisclosed amount of cash and the vehicle were seized. “The case involving this operation will be brought before the next Morgan County Grand Jury in January,” Johnson said. Sunbright Police Chief Allen Dagley had been monitoring the activities at the residence for weeks while he gathered the information he needed to obtain the search warrant. The case is being taken directly to the Grand Jury instead of an arrest being made as a “matter of judicial economy to get the defendant on up into Criminal Court sooner,” Johnson explained. If an arrest had been made, the case would not have made it to the Grand Jury until May.
