-A A +A

Pat Rakes, the Co-Director of Conservation Fisheries of Knoxville, will be giving a presentation on efforts to preserve aquatic biodiversity and ecosystems in the southeastern United States, concentrating on the conservation and recovery of rare freshwater fishes on Sunday, Feb. 26th  at the Obed Wild and Scenic River Visitor Center.  Conservation Fisheries is a tax exempt, non-profit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the preservation of aquatic biodiversity. The organization’s goal is restoring fish populations that have been eliminated because of pollution or habitat destruction. Conservation Fisheries was the first facility in the Southeast to propagate rare, non-game fishes for recovery work. They also monitor the status of populations of rare fishes in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Reservations are not required for this free program, which begins at 2 p.m. (Eastern time), and should conclude around 3 p.m. The Obed Wild and Scenic River Visitor Center is located at 208 North Maiden Street in downtown Wartburg.
