Exploring Morgan County

-A A +A

From hiking to stargazing, Morgan County has lots to offer outdoors. But, I bet many of you haven’t heard of one of my favorite outdoor activities: Geocaching.
If you’re not familiar with Geocaching, it’s essentially one big treasure hunt. People hide capsules on public property for others to find. Sometimes, these capsules have fun little trinkets inside, sometimes they just have lists to sign to show that you found them. The cool thing is, anyone can go geocaching, and it’s free.
Just go on Geocaching.com and search for caches in your area. They’re listed based on difficulty and terrain, so you’ll know what you’re getting into beforehand. From there, simply select a Geocache, and your hunt begins.
The Geocache you select will include everything you need to know: its coordinates, location on a map, driving directions, size of the capsule and clues to find it. There are even records of when it was last found and what previous hunters thought of it.
As of right now, there are 25 free Geocaches hidden all over Morgan County. I’m excited to search for them with my family this spring. We used to hunt for geocaches often when I was younger, and I miss doing it.
If Geocaching sounds like something you’d enjoy, be sure to check out the website. Happy hunting!
