Middle School Eagles fall to Midway

On Tuesday night the Midway Green Wave travelled to Oakdale to take on the Eagles in Middle School football action.

Midway was able to control the contest, but the Eagles were able to show bright spots in the loss on the night.

Oakdale received to start the ball game with the ball on their own 25-yard line. Seth Gordon got a big sack for the Green Wave to set up fourth and long for an Eagles punt.  The Eagles downed the ball on their own 40-yard line with Midway taking over on their own 40.

It took Ty Mason three carries and 40 yards to get in the end zone for the Green Wave on their first drive. The two-point try was unsuccessful as the score was 6-0 with 5:07 left in the first.

Oakdale took the ball on their own 10 for their second possession of the game.

Oakdale was unable to pick up much as they punted and Midway took over on the Eagles 20.  A 10 yard pass from Seth Gordon to Devon Maxwell set up a 3-yard touchdown run for Ty Mason to make the score 12-0 with 2:29 left in the first quarter.

A nice return by Eloy Vera set up the Eagles on their own 43 to start the drive.  Caleb Goodman got an interception for midway on the first play of the drive to set up Midway on the Eagles 47 yard line.

Eloy Vera picked up a sack for the Eagles to set up a long third down for Midway. The Green Waves didn’t convert on third but on fourth Gordon threw a 50-yard pass to Caleb Goodman for the score. Midway led by a score of 18-0 with 22.9 left in the first quarter.

Devon Maxwell made a huge stop in the backfield to set up Oakdale with a third and 20. Oakdale drew the Green Waves off sides to set up a third and 15. Oakdale was unable to convert on fourth down as Midway took over on the 50.

Seth Gordon took the ball 48 yards to set up a first and goal from the two and the next play Gordon took it in from 2 yards out. Ethan Sorrell plowed in from the three yard line to make the score 26-0 with 2:29 left in the second quarter.

Eloy Vera took a pass 47 yards from Joespeh Summers for the Eagles first score of the night to make the score 26-6.

Midway held their 26-6 lead going into the half.

Ty Mason took the opening kickoff of the second half to the Eagles 25 yard line to start the second half.  After Ty Mason picked up some good gains, Seth Gordon took a QB keeper 5 yards for the touchdown to make the score 32-6.

When the Eagles took the field for their first series of offense, they faced third and 10 but the sure connection of Summers and Vera connected for the first down. The Green Waves held on to get the ball back on the Eagles 45.

Ty Mason threw a pass on fourth down to Goodman to keep the drive alive for Midway.  The third quarter ended with the Green Waves leading by a score of 32-6.

Seth Gordon took a pitch 15 yards for a touchdown for Midway. Gordon also rumbled in the end zone to make the score 40-6 with the 2-point conversion.

On fourth down the Eagles ran a half back pass from Nehemiah Cooney to Eloy Vera for 20 yards to keep the Eagles drive alive.  The Eagles were unable to pick up any more on the drive as the Green Waves took over.

Midway secured the 40-6 victory over Oakdale on the night.

Ty Mason led the Green Waves on the ground as he had 13 carries for 91 yards with two rushing touchdowns. Seth Gordon added 76 yards rushing on 7 carries along with three rushing touchdowns and one throwing.

Caleb Goodman picked up 72 yards worth of yards from receiving on the night for Midway.

Eloy Vera had 6 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles.
