  • Scott County Bee Assoc. meeting set for Dec. 19

        The Scott County Bee Association will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Scott County Office Building in Huntsville. A potluck dinner will be held. Bring a dish to share.   • Save the date for CASA Winter Blast

        The 2018 CASA Winter Blast has been set for Saturday, Feb. 10. The event will once again be held at the Princess Theatre in Harriman. There will be food, fun and music featuring the Chillbillies.

  • DLHS begins collecting donations for 50th Deer Lodge July 4th Parade and Celebration

        The Deer Lodge Historical Society is commemorating 50 years of the Deer Lodge July 4th Parade and Celebration.
        Donations are now being accepted for a Henry Lever Action 22 Long Rifle, #1 of 10 produced. The cost for tickets are $5 for one or $10 for three. The rifle will be given away on July 4, 2018 at the Weidemann Hotel at 7 p.m.

        The holiday season is all about sharing, celebrating, togetherness, and indulging-in moderation. Pass the eggnog and remember to help yourself when it comes to navigating the holiday season.
        Tips for Helping Yourself
        Put your food on a plate. It is much harder to track what is being eaten when just nibbling freely without a plate.
        Count your canapés. Same reasoning as #1.
        Eat and chew slowly. It is not a race.

    An embarrassing situation

        When I was attending college, term papers were often required in the classes I was taking. Being conscientious, I tried to begin the ‘paper’ as soon as it was assigned.
        In one particular class I chose to write about Africa. I immediately went to the University library and picked up several good documentaries about the country. I took the books back to the dormitory and put them on my desk.

        Turns out the infection was around one or more of the Titanium plates in my mouth and they must be removed immediately. My first thought was “that was six years ago!”
        I went for the routine chest x-ray in preparation for surgery, and of course, with my luck, it came back with a question mark.
        “Have you ever had TB?”
        “No, but may I ask why you’re asking?”
