After a slow start in the first half, the Rockwood Lady Tigers blew the game wide open in the third quarter to defeat the Oakdale Lady Eagles 49-38.

While it took a while for the Lady Tigers to get going on offense, they didn’t ever allow the Lady Eagles to get that far ahead.

The largest lead Oakdale held was early in the first quarter when the Lady Eagles were ahead 10-4. The Lady Tigers came back with a 7-2 run to only trail 12-11 at the end of the first period.

The second quarter was about as evenly matched as it gets as neither team could hold onto the lead for any length of time. Camryn Evans scored nine points for Rockwood to give the Lady Tigers a one-point lead towards the end of the frame, but Oakdale’s Kaylee Headden drained a three with 20 seconds left in the half to put Oakdale ahead 24-22. Karlee Bowling answered with a bucket in the final two seconds of the period to tie the game at 24-24 headed into the second half.

Oakdale briefly regained the lead in the third quarter when Delaney Hicks made a bucket and James made a 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions, but the Lady Tigers came roaring back with an 11-point run to take a 38-29 lead.

The Lady Tigers backed off a bit in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Eagles were unable to get a run going to overcome the damage caused in the third quarter. Rockwood outscored Oakdale 11-9 in the final frame to close out the game with the 49-38 win.

Evans was absolutely explosive for Rockwood and led all scorers with 23 points. Hannah Coffey led the Lady Eagles in defeat with 13 points, while James added eight.

With the loss, the Lady Eagles finished the season 3-13 in the district and 5-23 overall with the No. 7 seed in the Distirct 3-A Tournament.
