Lady Jackets eliminate Rockwood

After defeating Sunbright on Monday night, the Rockwood Lady Tigers moved on in the winners bracket to take on top ranked Coalfield on Tuesday evening but fell to the Lady Jackets by a final score of 5-4, putting them in the losers bracket to take on Oneida later that night with the Lady Indians eliminating Rockwood from the tournament by a final score of 14-0.

The game was tied at two with Coalfield going to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning when Tori Malone opened up with a double followed by a walk to Anna Smith then a two-run single from Taylor Landrum put Coalfield up 4-2 going into the sixth inning.

Rockwood got one run back as Olivia Metcalfe doubled and scored after consecutive singles from Cassidy Tilley and Shasta Thompson to cut the lead to 4-3.

Mikayla Heidel scored one for Coalfield in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-3 but the resilient Lady Tigers did not give up as Metcalfe doubled and scored to cut it to one but Rockwood strands the tying and go ahead runs on base and Coalfield advances to take on Harriman on Wednesday evening in the winner’s bracket.

Metcalfe went three-for-four for the Lady Tigers and Haley Ratcliffe had two RBIs for Coalfield with Smith getting the win while KaeLee Dyer took the loss for Rockwood.

The Lady Tigers had to turn around and play Oneida in a win or go home game with Oneida taking the win by a final score of 14-0.

Rockwood was unable to recover after going down 6-0 in the first inning. Errors plagued the Lady Tigers and they were ineffective at the plate with Olivia Metcalfe’s double in the third being the only offensive highlight of the game.

Kara Garrett took the loss for Rockwood as the Lady Tigers’ late season run ends with a loss to Oneida.
