A report of a suspicious vehicle led to a Morgan County resident, Steven Len Stedam, 58, being arrested on drug charges.

According to a report from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the alleged incident occurred on Sunday, May 5 at 7:30 a.m.

The report states MCSO’s, Mike Rayder responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle on Pine Flats Road in Deer Lodge. The report states Stedam’s vehicle was in gear and he was passed out with his foot on the brake. There was also a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and officer Rayder saw an open beer can sitting in the console and several more lying in the passenger seat.

After awakening Stedam, officer Rayder discovered there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The report states when Stedam was removed from his vehicle he was too intoxicated to perform any field sobriety test.
Upon searching the vehicle, a snorting straw and small baggy with white powder residue was discovered in the driver’s side floorboard. A meth pipe, set of scales and a small container with a small amount of meth powder were also discovered in the console.

During transport to Morgan County Jail, officer Rayder noticed Stedam moving around a lot in the back seat. After dropping Stedam off at the jail, officer Rayder discovered a baggy containing approximately 10.47 grams of meth where Stedam had been seated.

The report also states officer Rayder had removed the back seat of the vehicle at the beginning of his shift like he does every morning and there were no drugs or weapons under the seat.

Stedam was charged with failure to appear, driving under the influence- drug/alcohol, possession unlawful drug paraphernalia uses and activities, implied consent, possession for resale/manufacture/delivery, and possession of schedule II controlled substance.

Stedam’s bond was set at $94,000 and his court date is June 27, 2019.
