This year, a new group of ladies will have the chance to shine at the Morgan County Fair.

Organizers are adding another category to its beauty contest line-up, and this year will hold it’s first-ever Morgan County Miss Sparkle contest at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16.

The event is open to girls and women with special needs, said Kim Potter, who, along with her husband, Steve, operates the fair.

“We have given out special awards in the past, but we really wanted to do a full-scale pageant this year,” she said. “I think there is a real need for it; I didn’t realize how many special needs children and adults who might like to participate.”

She said all five categories are open to those living inside and outside of the county.

“I am not going to discriminate against a child for where they live,” she said.

Registration is Saturday, Aug. 5, from 12 to 3 p.m.

It is free to enter this pageant, Potter said.
