Eagles defeat Coalfield 90-69 for first region title in program history

By Taylor Crombie

The Oakdale Eagles made history Thursday night at Roane State Community College in Harriman by defeating the Coalfield Yellow Jackets 90-69 to claim their first region title in program history.

Dawson Smith came out on fire and scored 17 points on five threes and a pair of free throws to put Oakdale ahead early. The Jackets kept fighting through it, but were never able to get a big run of their own going to overcome the early deficit.

Oakdale made just as many 3-pointers as two-point shots, making it hard for Coalfield to keep up and almost impossible to pull ahead.
