    Colt and Lige Miles of Oakdale are happy to announce the marriage of their mother, April Miles to Brian Langley of Wartburg.

    Pastor Charles Webb performed the wedding ceremony Saturday, Jan.15, 2011 amidst beautiful snow covered scenery in Oakdale where the couple will make their home.

  • New Year’s Day Wedding

    Garry and Danita Ashley of Coalfield were married on Jan. 1, 2011 in the presence of family and friends at the Misty Mountain Wedding Chapel in Wartburg.


    The wedding party included, Tara Tinker (Maid of Honor), Shane Ashley (Best Man), Chelsea Ashley and Christy Vann (bridesmaids), Riley Ashley (flower girl), Heath and Peyton Tinker (groomsmen) and Reverend James Foster (officiant). The couple would like to thank all their family and friends who supported them in their union.

    Andrew and Tonya Freels of Sunbright joyfully announce the birth of their daughter, Andi LeAnn.

    Andi was born on December 9, 2010 at UT Medical Center. She weighed 7 lbs 2 oz and was 20 ½“ long. Her maternal grandparents include William and Carla Northrup of Sunbright and Michael and Melissa Gilreath of Lenoir City. Paternal grandparents are Shirlene Freels of Sunbright and the late Wayne Freels. Her great-grandparents are Doris Northrup of Sunbright and Irene Griffin of Kingston.

  • 60th wedding anniversary

    On Nov. 4, 2010, Calvin and Betty Lou Zacharias celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the home of Harold and Janet Kuebler. A group of friends planned a surprise party for them.

    Calvin, born in 1930 in Oklahoma, and after his schooling, migrated to Indianapolis, Indiana where he met Betty Lou. It didn’t take long for Calvin to decide that Betty Lou was the one and only for him. They were married November 4, 1950, at the South Side Seventh-day Adventist Church.

  • 40 years in ministry

    The Meadowview Baptist Church will be honoring their Pastor, Bro. Ralph Nance with a reception in celebration of Bro. Nance’s 40 years in the Ministry. Bro. Nance announced his call into the ministry on Jan 3, 1971 at the Shady Grove Baptist Church and has pastored churches in Fentress, Morgan and Roane counties. The reception will be at the Meadowview Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on January 2, 2011 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The church cordially invites everyone to attend.

  • Lucy Sweat visits Alaska

        Miss Lucy Sweat, retired Wartburg teacher, wanted to visit all of the United States and she thought it might be interesting to take a cruise. With her fall cruise to Alaska, our 49th and largest state, and the last state on her list, she fulfilled both desires.

        There were only 48 states in the Union when she started teaching at Coalfield. Both Alaska and Hawaii became states in 1959 – Alaska on January 3 and Hawaii on August 21.

  • Machanoff, Sherrill marry

        Emily Anna Machanoff and James Adam Sherrill, both of Wartburg were united in holy matrimony September 4th, 2010 at Butterfly Gap, Maryville at 5:30 p.m. with Mr. Del Scruggs officiating. A reception immediately followed the ceremony.
