  • Astronomy Programs at Big South Fork October 1st

       Paul Lewis from the University of Tennessee and the Big South Fork astronomy volunteers will be at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area on Saturday, October 1, 2011, for two special programs.

  • Big South Fork to host Cultural Heritage Month at Blue Heron in October

        The National Park Service will be hosting a series of special programs and craft demonstrations at the Blue Heron Mining Camp every Saturday during the month of October. The programs will highlight the unique history and culture of the Cumberland Plateau region.  National Park Rangers and volunteers will be presenting a variety of historically based skits,
    interpretive talks and demonstrations.

    Keep Your Bag Dry: Line your sleeping-bag stuff sack with a heavy-duty garbage bag to keep your sleeping bag dry in any weather. Place the plastic bag inside your stuff sack, then stuff the sleeping bag inside. Compress the bag and close with a twist tie.

  • Cannon, appointed to TWRC Commission

        Harold Cannon, of Lenoir City, has been appointed to serve as a member of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission (TWRC).
        A civil engineer, Cannon is a part of the 13-member governing body of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). Appointed to a six-year term (2011-17), Cannon will represent District 2 which is comprised of Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Cumberland, Knox, Loudon, Morgan, Roane, Scott, Sevier, and Union counties.

  • Annual Pumpkin Festival in Allardt takes place Oct. 1st

        This could be the year when Allardt, Tennessee, unveils the biggest pumpkin in the world at its 20th annual Allardt Great Pumpkin Festival and Weigh-off, Saturday, October 1.

  • Details still being worked out for AEDC Fall Hunts

        The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the U.S. Air Force are still working out the details for the 2011 fall deer and turkey hunts on AEDC Wildlife Management Area.
         AEDC Units 1 and 2 are still used extensively for military training drill and the military use takes precedence over the hunting opportunities are the WMA.

  • Deer - Archery Only - season has opened

        Tennessee’s deer archery-only season opened on Saturday, Sept. 24 in all 95 counties in the state, according to The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
         The archery season dates in all three of the state’s deer hunting units are the same. The dates are Sept. 24-Oct. 28 and Oct. 31-Nov. 4.
