        Leona Newman West, 97, of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the Harriman Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
         She was a member of Kellytown Baptist Church.
        She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Monday Newman; son, Robert D. “Shorty” Hightower; and one granddaughter.

  • Sandra Marlow Goad, 65

        Sandra Marlow Goad, 65 of Rossville, Ga., formerly of Petros, passed away at home on Saturday, April 23, 2011.  
        She was of the Baptist faith.
        Mrs. Goad was preceded in death by her grandparents, Wiley and Julie Armes; and
    father, Early Marlow.

  • Naomi Ruth Hensley Godwin

        Naomi Ruth Hensley Godwin of Petros departed this life on Friday, April 22, 2011 after a long battle with cancer.
        She was retired from Brushy Mountain Prison.
        She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed listening to and watching Coalfield football games.
        She was proceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jim Godwin; parents, Clifton and Grace Davis Hensley; five brothers, James, Bernard, Lawrence (Bill), Johnny and Jack Hensley.

  • Cora McCann, 83

        Cora McCann, 83 of Wartburg, a faithful Christian, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Morgan County.
        Retired from the Agricultural Engineering Department of the University of Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Myrtle Newberry McCann of Wartburg.

        Vernie Fred Thomas, 81, of Oliver Springs, passed away April 20, 2011 at his home.
        He was a member of the Big Mountain Baptist Church.
        Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Lee Thomas; son, Freddie Thomas; and parents, George and Pearl Thomas.

  • Miles William Bostic, 90

        Miles William Bostic, 90 of Burrville, was born March 3, 1921 and passed away April 19, 2011 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
        He was a W.W. II veteran of the U. S. Army, serving 3 years in Italy.

  • Charles Henry Adkins, 79

        Charles Henry Adkins, 79, of Harriman, passed away April 21, 2011at his home.
        He served in the the U.S. Air Force.
        Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Lacy and Martha Heckman Adkins.
        He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mayadgile Pass Adkins; daughter, Teresa Clark and husband Bobby; sons, Trevor Adkins and wife Carol and Tracy Adkins; grandchildren, Adam Clark and wife Stella; five granchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

        William Ray Tripp, 72, of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at his home.
        He served in the United States Navy and the United States Army. He attended Beech Fork Holiness Church.  
        Mr. Tripp was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Wesley Tripp and Ruby Randolph Cherry.

  • Gary Sitzler, 61

        Gary Sitzler, 61, of Harriman, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center.
        He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Samuel and Sally Trentham Sitzler.
        The family received friends Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Harriman. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Interment followed in the Roane Memorial Gardens, Rockwood.
     

  • Silas Odell Steele Jr., 89

        Silas Odell Steele, Jr., 89, of Oakdale, passed away April 24, 2011 in the Harriman Rehab Center, Harriman.
        He was preceded in death by his wife, Mossie Lee Tilson Steele; and parents, Myrtle Susan and Silas O. Steele, Sr.
        Mr. Steele is survived by his sons, Jerry and wife Opal Steele of Harriman and Robert Terry Steele of Harriman; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
