Commission okays Brushy tax plans

The Brushy Mountain project took a large step forward Monday night when the county commission approved a tax abatement plan for the developers.

Developers are planning to use the century-old Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Petros as a museum, RV park, distillery and tourist attraction.

Two of the developers, Pete Waddington and Brian May were on hand during Monday’s commission meeting to update the community on the project and see the tax plan pass.
