  • Season comes to an end

        COALFIELD—Coalfield used a 28-point explosion in the fourth quarter to rally from 17 points down to defeat Jellico back nearly three months ago. The Jackets erupted for 28 points in the final period of their first-round District 4-A Tournament battle Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Jellico’s Cody Malicoat, who dropped in 41 points, to lead the Blue Devils to a 70-59 triumph.

  • Lady Bulldogs beat Oakdale 47-26 to advance to the 4-A Championship game

        WARTBURG—For the sixth straight year Wartburg beat Oakdale in the District 4-A Tournament. The #1-seed Lady Bulldogs defeated the #4-seed Lady Eagles 47-26 in the semifinals Friday evening to earn a berth in the championship game.
        It was the eighth win in their last nine meetings in the post-season for Wartburg against Oakdale. It was the third win over the Lady Eagles for the Lady Bulldogs this season.

  • Oneida ends Eagles’ season

        ONEIDA—For the fourth time in seven years, Oakdale’s basketball season has ended at Oneida in a District 4-A first-round loss.
        The #7-seed Eagles (2-24) lost for the second straight year at Oneida in the opening round with a 60-37 defeat Thursday night.

  • Lady Indians hold off Coalfield

        ONEIDA—Coalfield had the glass slippers on at Oneida during the first round of the District 4-A Girls Tournament last Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the #6-seed Lady Jackets (9-17) broke those slippers in the final minute of a 49-45 loss to the #2-seed Lady Indians.

  • Richardson drops in career-high 33 on Jellico in Wartburg’s 80-63 semifinal win

        WARTBURG—Wartburg showed why they are the #1 seed in the District 4-A Tournament with a convincing 80-63 victory over #5-seed Jellico in the semifinal affair Saturday night.
        In their two regular season meetings, the Bulldogs earned a three-point and a one-point win over the Blue Devils.

  • Indians edge Tigers 59-56 in semifinals

        WARTBURG—Their two regular season battles were decided by three points and one point, so a close game was expected in Sunbright and Oneida’s semifinal encounter during the District 4-A Tournament Saturday night.
        The two teams didn’t disappoint with the #2-seed Indians pulling out a 59-56 victory over #3-seed Sunbright.

  • Lady Eagles beat Sunbright

        OAKDALE—Oakdale’s Nicole Thompson shoots the three ball well. She shoots it extremely well against Sunbright.  
        The junior guard hit a school-record eight three-pointers in helping the Lady Eagles defeat Sunbright back in mid December, and she hit a half-a-dozen more to help Oakdale defeat Sunbright 54-36 in the first round of the District 4-A Tournament Tuesday night.

  • Coalfield sweeps OHS

        COALFIELD—Both Coalfield basketball teams celebrated senior night with a pair of wins over county-rival Oakdale Friday night.
        The Lady Jackets upset Oakdale 29-28 in a defensive battle, while the Coalfield boys rolled to a 62-34 win over the Eagles.
    GIRLS GAME
        Coalfield’s Samantha Hamby hit a three-pointer with :17 left to lift the Lady Jackets to a 29-28 triumph of Oakdale.

  • Wartburg sweeps Oakdale in 4-A hoops
