  • HTC’s Patterson elected President of TTA Providers

        Mark Patterson, General Manager and CEO of Highland Telephone Cooperative, has been elected President of the Tennessee Telecommunications Association’s Board.
        TTA represents 21 companies and cooperatives that provide broadband service to many rural areas of the state. They held their annual meeting earlier this month in Cool Springs.

  • Lowe Income Home Energy Assistance available

        The East Tennessee Human Resource Agency (ETHRA) is currently taking applications for the Lowe Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for residents in Morgan County. These appointments are for the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018. To schedule an appointment call ETHRA’s Energy Line at 1-844-309-0416. Applications will be taken at the ETHRA office located at 1111 Knoxville Hwy, Wartburg.

        Are you ready for Vacation Bible School at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield at 6 p.m.? Come and join us and check out this church for VBS this week.
        Middle Creek Church’s Vacation Bible School was a great success. Thanks to those who worked so hard and for the attendees who enjoyed the spiritual experience. Coalfield residents really appreciate those churches that take the time to teach the children through the VBS medium. VBS was one of my favorite events of the summer when I was a child.

  • DLARMC names events set for Parade

        On Wednesday, July 4, the Deer Lodge Abner Ross Memorial Center will serve its famous BBQ chicken dinner which includes, one half of a chicken, one quarter for children, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls and drinks. The cost for adults is $8 and $4 for children. Carryouts will be available, however, deliveries will not be made. Serving will begin immediately following the parade.

  • Deer Lodge Parade schedule

        It’s that time of year again. Deer Lodge is preparing for its 50th Fourth of July Celebration. The celebration will be on Wednesday, July 4.
         The Deer Lodge Abner Ross Center (old Deer Lodge School) will serve its famous BBQ chicken dinner. The dinners will be available as soon as the parade is over. This year the meal consists of half chickens, one quarter for children, green beans, cole slaw and a roll for $8. A child plate consists of a quarter chicken, green beans, cole slaw and a roll for $5.

    The Morgan-Scott Project Thrift Store will hold its Quarter (25 cent) day on Wednesday, June 27. The cost for all clothing items in the store will be a quarter.

        The community of Coalfield, the families, and churches united to honor the amazing men in their lives. It is honorable and respectful to tell the world what our Fathers did for us, and many of us miss the dear men who directed our paths but are now sleeping in Jesus. Happy Father’s day to all.
        A new business opens in the area, the renewed and renovated Brushy Mountain Prison. Tours, a museum, gift shop, and restaurant will be operating there, bringing tourism and jobs to the area.
