    Haynes thankful for good samaritans

I would like to take the time to personally say, “chivalry is not dead” with some men.

    Reader disturbed by drugs, violence

My husband and I moved to Tennessee about 15 months ago. We had hoped to spend our remaining years in some sense of peace. We find that our hope is for naught because we moved to a place of drugs, alcohol and fights.

Davis: Carroll was good at her job

As you know, Edd Diden made the decision not to hire Kathy Carroll back as the Elementary Supervisor of Instruction without a reason. As a former employee of the Morgan County Schools Central office I have seen first hand the job that Kathy does for our children.

Guinn: Kilby themes need analysis, further thought

    Dear Editor,

  • Raiford invites all to candidate forum

First, I’d like to thank the candidates who have participated in our Morgan County Tea Party candidate forum so far. We’ve heard from around eleven County Commission candidates, all three County Executive candidates (Candidate Keck, Senator Kilby, and County Executive Edwards), two of three Sheriff’s candidates (Candidate Potter and Sheriff Freytag) , and several other candidates as well.

  • Shadden reveals August voting decision

I thought twice on writing this letter. Mainly because of my family — I don’t want my opinion to affect them. You see, I have dementia. Right now the medication is slowing it down, but who knows for how long. So I figure I would write this while my thoughts were clear.

When my son, Trevor, moved back to Morgan County, my thought was that, over-all our county was stable. My son is a deputy sheriff and has been there since 2002.

    Johnson: Edwards won’t cooperate

I first would like to say, I am really tired of hearing that no one will work with Mr. Edwards. The only one unwilling to work with others is DON EDWARDS? It’s his job to work with everybody and he still refused to do his job. Edwards again and again has drawn the line in the sand.

Before he took office, he made the decision to not work with me and other commissioners. At his swearing in ceremony, he only invited certain commissioners to come.

  • Child abuse prevention a success

    Dear Editor,

CASA of the Ninth Judicial District would like to thank everyone who participated in this years events surround April’s Child Abuse prevention month. We would like to say a special thank you to those who come out on Saturday and held a table and games for the children: American Legion, Department of Children Services, Litter Grant Coordinator Aimie, Redemption Academy, Ridgeview, Salvation Army and Unicorn Fund.

  • Money goes to archives, not history

    Dear Editor,

I am writing about the photo on the front page of last week’s paper. It is a photo of a group accepting a check from  Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett.

This article says the check was presented to the Morgan County Genealogical & Historical Society.  I just want to let everyone know that the check was not for the Genealogy Society.

  • Reader: Kilby is best choice for exec

    Dear Editor,

KILBY IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR COUNTY EXECUTIVE. I have lived in Morgan County for many years. I want to remind the people of Morgan County of why Kilby is not only the best choice, but the only choice for getting our county back on track.

Morgan County’s financial condition was never better than it was during Kilby’s time in office. The tax rate was consistently reduced. Fund balances reached the highest level in history. The stature of our county was elevated to a level of respect and a civil environment prevailed during difficult times.
